Tumbling Classes

Tumbling tuition offered for all ages and levels of ability

We offer tumbling classes in a range of levels on multiple afternoons/evenings per week. Tumbling classes are optional for Recreational athletes; whilst our Semi-Competitive athletes must be enrolled in one class per week, and our Competitive athletes must be enrolled in two classes per week. The tumbling class an athlete is enrolled into is determined by their individual skill level, and so does not necessarily correspond to the level of the team(s) they are in (e.g., an athlete may be in a Level 1 team, but her tumbling skills may be more advanced, placing her in a Level 3 tumble class). All athletes must undertake a skills assessment for our staff to determine which level class is the most appropriate for them; recognising that athletes must have all skills from the level(s) prior to the level in which they wish to enrol. We are a gym committed to "perfection over progression", and prioritise safe and technical tumbling - thus athletes must be able to execute all skills with sound technique before advancing to the next level. All tumbling classes are capped at a ratio of 1 coach to 10 athletes. We also offer private tumbling tuition. Athletes may just tumble at Skybound without being committed to a cheer team as well, however Semi-Competitive and Competitive stream athletes will be prioritised in taking places in tumble classes, due to the requirement for them to tumble.

In 2021, our tumbling classes will be divided into 6 levels. The basic skills of each level are as shown:

Foundations: handstands, forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, bridges

Level 1: roundoffs, forward/backward walkovers, connecting skills into speciality Level 1 passes

Level 2: back handsprings (standing), front handsprings and roundoff handsprings (running), connecting skills into specialty Level 2 passes

Level 3: connected handsprings and jump to handspring (standing), front and back tucks (running), connecting skills into speciality Level 3 passes

Level 4: back tucks (standing), front and back layouts (running), connecting skills into specialty Level 4 passes

Level 5: jump to tuck, and handspring(s) to layouts (standing), front and back twisting (running), connecting skills into specialty Level 5 passes
